A1Series A

Maximumsnelheid

Maximum speed

You may not drive faster than the speed shown (here 50 km/h).

CBR Exam Tip

A1 is mandatory. It applies until the next junction or until an A2 or new A1 sign.

A2Series A
50

Einde maximumsnelheid

End of maximum speed

The previously posted speed limit ends; the default limit for the road type applies again.

CBR Exam Tip

After A2 you fall back to the default limit — not 'no limit'. Outside built-up areas that is 80 km/h.

A4Series A

Adviessnelheid

Advisory speed

Recommended speed for this stretch of road, for example before a sharp bend.

CBR Exam Tip

Blue square = advice, red circle = law. The CBR still expects you to respect advisory speeds.

B1Series B

Voorrangsweg

Priority road

You are on a priority road. Traffic from side roads must give way to you.

CBR Exam Tip

B1 stays valid until you see B2. Trams on side roads must also give way to you here.

B2Series B

Einde voorrangsweg

End of priority road

The priority road ends. General priority rules apply again.

CBR Exam Tip

After B2, 'right before left' returns — a common trap in intersection questions.

B3Series B

Voorrangskruispunt

Priority intersection ahead

At the next intersection you have priority over traffic from both sides.

CBR Exam Tip

The thick line shows your road. B3 only applies to the next intersection, unlike B1.

B6Series B

Verleen voorrang

Give way

Give way to drivers on the road you are approaching.

CBR Exam Tip

You only have to stop if traffic is coming. Usually paired with haaientanden.

B7Series B
STOP

Stop

Stop and give way

Come to a complete stop at the stop line and give way to traffic on the crossing road.

CBR Exam Tip

Always stop fully — even when the road is completely empty.

HaaientandenSeries B

Haaientanden

Shark-teeth give-way marking

Road marking of white triangles pointing at you: give way to traffic on the crossing road.

CBR Exam Tip

Haaientanden alone mean 'give way' — even without a B6 sign. The points face the driver who must yield.

C1Series C

Gesloten in beide richtingen

Closed in both directions

Closed to all vehicles in both directions. Pedestrians may enter.

CBR Exam Tip

Applies to cyclists and moped riders too — they must walk their bike.

C2Series C

Inrijden verboden

No entry

Entry prohibited for vehicles in this direction (usually the exit of a one-way street).

CBR Exam Tip

Often has an underboard 'uitgezonderd fietsers' — then cyclists may enter.

G1Series G

Autosnelweg

Motorway

Start of a motorway. Only for motor vehicles that can and may go at least 60 km/h.

CBR Exam Tip

Day limit 100 km/h (06:00–19:00). Stopping is only allowed in emergencies.

G3Series G

Autoweg

Expressway

Start of an autoweg. Maximum speed 100 km/h for cars.

CBR Exam Tip

An autoweg can have level crossings and oncoming traffic without a central barrier.

G5Series G

Erf

Residential yard (woonerf)

Start of an erf: drive at walking pace, pedestrians may use the whole road.

CBR Exam Tip

Speed = stapvoets (no number). Parking is only allowed in marked 'P' spaces.

G11Series G

Verplicht fietspad

Mandatory cycle path

Cyclists must use this path. Mopeds and cars are not allowed.

CBR Exam Tip

Round blue = mandatory. Rectangular cycle-path signs (G13) are optional paths.
